Greetings from the desk of President Betty Nelson:
Last year was a challenge for the few local members of the society but we managed to accomplish a few things. The Library received a grant for a new Microfilm reader and we were able to purchase a computer and the printer to go with it. Tom Hobbs set up everything and it is great to use. Of course the microfilms aren't all as good as we would like them to be but we will all have to deal with it and be happy we have so many old papers filmed to use for research.
Most of us have a project on but of course they all take time. After our next meeting I will be able to report to you all about where we are all at. Hopefully we will be able to get another book or two ready.
Thanks also to Tom we have a second computer in the Genealogy room also available to use by our members. Our original computer did not have enough memory as we are trying to get some of our records on the computer so we voted to donate it to the Library for the patrons to use. The computer room is always well used. Patrons only have a limited time they are able to use those computer.
To those of you who have had medical problems this past year we wish all the best in 2011. Some have lost loved ones and we extend our sympathy to them. Our friend, Tom Copeland, remains in the Nursing Home. We miss his daily visits and the information he shared with us. Many visited this past year and we were able to answer many queries throughout the year. If we promised to check on something for you and you haven't heard back give us a reminder. To those who shared info. Thanks so much. We have shared with others. The New Bethel Quilt is on display and several folks have found their ancestor's name on it.
A reminder if you haven't renewed your membership this will be your last newsletter. Dues remain $10. We continue to send you 4 newsletters a year with your membership.
We are trying to improve our records. If you are researching certain families we want to update our files. We would appreciate it if you would remind us what families you are researching. We have made many contacts this year with people looking up their families and we would like to connect you to others researching the same families.
We still have a lot of boxes from Hazel Yates files and hope to get them sorted through and books we don't have on the shelves and any family info in the files.
We save Best Choice labels. Donna Gimlin looks after mailing them off each year.
